Hello, my name is Anna Volkidou. While I initially trained and worked as an engineer in Greece, I have always had a passion for teaching, tutoring and languages. Who are my students

My students come from diverse backgrounds. Some of them want to learn Greek in order to connect to their Greek heritage while others want to learn about the Greek culture and its contribution to modern society. I have experience across all age groups and my students range from young children to adults. My student-centred teaching methodology means that I fine tune my lessons to each student’s individual strengths, needs and learning goals. One-on-one tutoring can help you achieve your goal.

What language skills will you learn:

Speaking & Listening

Engaging, interactive tasks are used to promote the development of speaking skills, such as pronunciation and fluency. Listening skills are developed in tandem with speaking skills. The goal is to fine tune your listening accuracy in order to avoid any potential misunderstandings in your conversations.

Greek Thinking through Philosophy

Viewing & Reading

Your reading skills will be developed through targeted vocabulary and grammar lessons. As your vocabulary expands and your grasp of grammar structures increases, you will be exposed to a variety of authentic texts that have been selected in collaboration with your teacher. The ultimate goal is for you to be able to read fluently with a high level of comprehension.

Writing

Alongside your reading skills, you will simultaneously be developing your writing skills. We will target your grammar, vocabulary, spelling, and punctuation skills. The specific writing activities will be negotiated with your teacher to ensure that you find them personally meaningful and engaging.

I have been receiving Greek lessons from Anna since 2015. Before I first started the lessons my Greek language skills were quite "rusty" and I lost my confidence in using the language. Anna has made learning Greek fun and has tailored the lessons to meet my individual needs. I am so happy to have found Anna. When I first started lessons with her my Greek was at the beginner level and I did not have a lot of confidence in my speaking skills. A year and a half later, I am able to read easily and I was able to confidently and efficiently communicate in Greek when I visited last summer. Anna is attentive and very attuned to my needs, weaknesses and strengths- she uses these observations to prepare lessons that keep me challenged and learning optimally. Anna is a terrific teacher I would highly recommend to any student wishing to learn Greek. Anna is excellent at breaking down components of the Greek Language into comprehensible pieces. My lessons have always been tailored to my individual strengths and weaknesses and at no point have we merely worked through a single textbook chapter by chapter. Anna always has a plan for each lesson and is able to explain concepts in a manner which enables me to progress. I have attended Greek lessons with other teachers before this where i have made little to no progress whereas i am making very pleasing progress this time. As the son of an English teacher it is clear to me that Anna not only understands the grammatical rules of the Greek language but also the English language which gives her the ability to clearly articulate structural similarities and differences between the languages enabling me to progress.
